Information about Reading at Southfield Park
At Southfield Park we use a bespoke reading curriculum which uses the current 2014 curriculum objectives. However our book choices are tailored to the needs and interests of our children. Reading has a particularly high profile across the school and a life long love of books is consistently promoted; each teacher even advertises our current book choices on each classroom door! We provide a wide range of different books for children to take home and read, these vary from oxford reading tree, bug books and x project to a variety of classic texts and modern children's novels. 'Benchmarking' and running reading records are used regularly to inform our teacher assessment of children's progress in reading and children are given colour banded books according to their levels. Our colour banding system is progressive; it begins on lilac and ends with white and free reading. Once a free reader children are able to select their own books for home reading.
